Flooding assistance will be in the Picayune area at the Walkiah Bluff boat ramp.
Pearl River County Emergency Operations Public Relations Officer Tony Bounds said representatives with the American Red Cross will be at the boat launch on Thursday from noon to 5 p.m. providing flood victims with cleanup kits and assistance with mental health, overall health and financial assistance.
Flooding in Pearl River County is subsiding, but with the reservoir opened up, an additional five inches is expected to be added to the river within the next two days, Bounds said. However, during that two days the river will continue to decline, so the level of flooding seen earlier in the week will not be an issue.
Additionally, rain is forecast for the next few days. Again, Bounds said predictions from the National Weather Service state the river will still continue to decline.
With creeks draining, all roads are now reopened and the county can move towards damage assessments.
Bounds said anyone with flood damage should report it to the local building and permit office.
These reports will help the county seek funding assistance from the governor’s office.
To report flood damage residents in the Poplarville area can call 601-403-2205. Picayune residents can call 601-749-7731 or stop by the 911 Addressing office located in Chimney Square on Goodyear Boulevard.
