On West Canal Street is a seafood restaurant that has been bringing weekly entertainment to the downtown area.
Since Donna Crosby opened Crackin’ Shells Dippin’ Tails in November of 2016, her goal has been to provide a place, “where everyone knows your name.”
Crackin’ Shells Dippin’ Tails recently underwent an expansion that opened in January of this year. Crosby said the extra space allowed her to add some entertainment to her establishment, including a game room with a pool table, Golden Tee and a test of strength. Crosby said a second pool table is expected to arrive soon.
In the main dining area, is space for karaoke, comedy shows and an open mic night in addition to the dining tables and bar.
Karaoke is offered on Friday nights, Wednesday is the open mic night and a trivia night takes place on Thursdays.
On March 24, Crosby said the comedian Mutzie will perform. He will collect $20 per person at the door the night of the show.
Currently the business is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights for dinner. Wednesday and Thursday the business is open from 5 to 10 p.m., and on Friday the business is open from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
As the name implies, Crackin’ Shells Dippin’ Tails offers fresh Gulf Coast seafood from fried fish and shrimp to boiled seasonal offerings such as crawfish. Crosby said she also sells oysters when they are in season. Aside from the fresh seafood, customers can also find Angus beef hamburgers, chicken wings and gumbo on the menu.
Since the business is only open three days a week, Crosby said it is available for private parties or meetings on off days.
