Pearl River County residents now have access to four decades of interior design experience through NB Interiors.
Owner, Nancy Bounds, has an extensive background in interior design, graduating from LSU with a bachelor of interior design in 1977.
Before restarting her firm in the Pearl River County area, it operated in Metairie, Louisiana for more than 15 years, but damage wrought by Hurricane Katrina forced Bounds to close that location in 2005.
She then relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas to take a job with the largest firm in the southeast, Cromwell Architects Engineers, where she was able to further her education and receive a masters of science with a specialty in healthcare interior design. While at Cromwell Architects Engineers she acquired certification as a healthcare interior designer, and provided an interior design package for a 250,000 square foot for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital, among many other projects.
In her work with hospitals, Bounds said way finding is a valuable aspect to interior design, because if patients can find their destination faster and easier, it reduces their stress. By reducing that stress, patients can recover faster, Bounds said.
Three years ago she moved to Pearl River County, where she and her husband have owned property for more than 25 years, and reopened her firm, NB Interiors. Now that she lives within the county, she is providing her extensive knowledge in interior design to residential and commercial buildings in Picayune, Pearl River County and the entire Gulf Coast region. In addition to having her own business, Bounds is also an associate professor at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she teaches interior design classes two days a week. After she meets with a client to gather their ideas for a particular project, within a matter of weeks, she can give her clients a tour of the finished project through a computer program called Revit. Depending on the project, Bounds said her turnaround time for a residential project could be as little two weeks. Larger projects may require more time.
“I make my designs to be a reflection of the people I’m working with,” Bounds said. “It’s their look.”
