A locally owned business celebrated its five-year anniversary on Friday.
In that time, Uniforms by Bales has been providing Picayune residents with a nearby location for the medical professional to purchase uniforms, shoes and some medical equipment, such as stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs.
The business offers screen-printing, vinyl printing on T-shirts and embroidery services.
Denise Bales, the owner of Uniforms by Bales, said she can embroider just about anything, including hats. Her equipment is capable of adding business logos and school logos to clothing. Large embroidery orders are accepted, with a turnaround time of about a week.
Bales said she started the business on Sept. 24 of 2011 at a location on Highway 43 N. A year later the business outgrew the location, so she moved the operation to her current address at 3200 U.S. 11 N., Suite B.
Bales has a background in the dental field, maintaining a certification as a dental hygienist. To save the stress on her back, she decided to open her own business and practice as a dental hygienist when time allows.
She chose to open Uniforms by Bales because she noticed there was no place in Picayune for medical professionals to purchase scrubs and other medical supplies when a previous scrub store closed. That meant people had to drive at least 30 minutes to neighboring towns to buy their supplies.
To commemorate her milestone, Bales said she offered 25 percent off items storewide on Friday.
Prizes were also given away as part of her Facebook promotion.
Bales said she had a website at one point, but she received more response from Facebook.
The business employs six people, two full time and four part time, Bales said.
Business hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
