What started as a carpet cleaning service in Picayune has grown to include window tinting.
Fred Davis started Davis Carpet Cleaning in 1984, two years later he added Sun Guard Auto Works to the fold.
Davis has more than five years of management experience working for a pharmacy chain, but wanted a job where he didn’t have to punch a clock.
“You don’t have to answer to anybody, and that’s nice,” Davis said.
The family owned and run business employs a total of five people, including his wife and son.
On the carpet cleaning side of the business, he utilizes special machinery that does a better job than any machine that can be rented for a weekend. Davis said their machinery is capable of heating the water to 200 degrees and has a high suction rate. And, there’s one other benefit.
“We take all the dirt with us when we leave,” Davis said.
The idea to add another layer to the business came while speaking with a family member.
He learned about window tinting from his brother-in-law and picked up some more pointers from attending a seminar.
Davis said he started that side of the business with little more than a spray bottle and a bottle of baby shampoo.
Each side of the business has an opposing busy season. Summer is when he gets the most window tinting customers due to the heat, while fall and winter is when the carpet cleaning side picks up because families are preparing to host holiday parties.
Pricing for carpet cleaning services depends on the size of the home and amount of carpeting.
Tinting of a two-door vehicle costs $179, while a four door car will cost $10 more. Trucks start at $149. Gift certificates are available for automotive tinting. He said he can have most vehicles tinted within a few hours.
Davis said he also offers residential and commercial tinting services, vent visors, bug guards and a variety of truck accessories. Pricing for residential and commercial tinting vary depending on the number of windows.
The business is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are closed on Saturday and Sunday.
“Life’s too short to be working on the weekends,” Davis said.
