On June 8, Picayune police officers interviewed a mother who brought charges of statutory rape against a man whom she said had sex with her minor daughter.

When officers spoke to the complainant, she said that her 14-year-old daughter had been raped, Assistant to the Chief of Police Jeremy Magri said.

The mother said, in the report filed by the officers, that the incident occurred on June 2, at approximately 2 a.m. at a Picayune residence, Magri said.

“The complainant advised that her daughter told her that while she was at her stepmother’s home Dustin Schaefer, 31, of 8012 Fishhook Lane, asked if she could stay up late, so he would not be alone,” Magri said.

The two then proceeded to the porch and drank a few beers, said Magri. “They ingested some narcotics, which the victim believed to be Adderall,” he said.

“Shortly after, Schaefer performed oral sex on her,” Magri said. “He then asked if she wanted to go to the car with him.”

“The complainant stated that her daughter advised that once they got to the car, they began undressing and at which time they began having sex,” Magri said.

“The complainant stated that three hours later her daughter sobered up and told Schaefer to stop,” Magri said. “Schaefer stopped and kept apologizing and asking her not to tell anyone.”

Several days later, the daughter informed her mother of what had occurred, said Magri. “At which time, she came to the police department and filed a police report.”

Schaefer had been arrested already that day on charges of trespassing on public housing property.

“When Schaefer was interviewed (about the statutory rape charges), he denied the sexual allegations made against him,” Magri said.

The mother signed charges against him for statutory rape and the charge was added to the trespassing charge, said Magri.

The case will be presented to a grand jury, said Magri. The grand jury will determine whether or not the suspect will be indicted. If indicted, he will then be sent to trial.

Schaefer’s bond is set at $10,500, $10,000 for the statutory rape charge and $500 for the trespassing charge.

He is being held in the Picayune Jail.
