Advanced Eyecare in Picayune is now offering access to emergency medical and urgent eye care services in an effort to reduce stress on local hospitals.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the business closed its doors until April 6, but as of March 26, the business will be open with a limited staff by appointment only Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Jarrad Berry O.D. said he or Kraig Stasney O.D., will be available by appointment to treat a patient’s emergency optical ailment, such as those caused by glaucoma or macular degeneration. Additionally, since a number of people are now off of work because of the pandemic, they may have injured their eye while working around the home, Stasney said. Advanced Eyecare staff are willing to attend to those needs on an emergency basis after the previously listed business hours as well.
All personnel at Advanced Eyecare will continue to utilize all Centers for Disease Control prevention methods, such as being gloved and masked, at all times while seeing a patient, Stasney said.
The two optometrists said they are offering this service to the community to help reduce the number of people going to the emergency room for eye related problems so those medical personnel can focus on more pressing health-related issues.
Anyone seeking eye care who may be exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to seek medical assistance at a hospital.
To make an appointment or seek emergency eye care, call the office at 601-799-0707 and leave a message. Staff will be checking messages on a regular basis, including the weekends.
Advanced Eyecare is located at 5 Alex Place in Picayune.
