Saturday’s One Night Stand scheduled to take place at the Pearl River County SPCA has garnered more than 30 participants to help raise funds for the shelter.
The event will also offer low cost adoptions for cats and kittens and dogs that are six months or older that night.
Maria Diamond, a spokesperson for the shelter, said the low cost adoptions will be offered from 6 to 10 p.m. on Feb. 29. Cats and kittens can be adopted for $30 during that time, while dogs at least six months old can be adopted for $40.
The public is also invited to see how volunteers have stepped up to raise funds for the shelter. It tasks the volunteers with asking others to donate to the cause in exchange for making a stand by spending one night at the shelter’s dog run, or any other place at the shelter they choose.
During the evening, those raising funds will hold fire side speakouts with shelter staff, be provided with refreshments and listen to music.
The public is invited to see what the fundraiser participants are up to during the evening while they pick out a new furry friend for adoption at a reduced rate.
PRCSPCA Treasurer Lauren Fitts said that more than 30 people are expected to help raise funds for the shelter by spending the night there. Of that total, 19 are honors students attending Poplarville High School. Others participating in the fundraising effort include shelter staff and volunteers and some veterinarian technicians from the Poplarville area.
