Planet Fitness now in Picayune
A new fitness facility called Planet Fitness is now operational within Picayune.
Manager Paige Baqui said the newest location of Planet Fitness opened in Picayune on Nov. 9.
She said the idea is to create a comfortable environment for people to work out without intimidation.
Most of Planet Fitness’ members are first timers who can benefit from the trainers the facility has on hand.
There are two membership levels, white card and black card. According to the website, white card fees are $10 a month, with a $1 start up fee and annual fee of $39 that includes a 12 month commitment. There is also a no commitment membership that costs $15 per month, with a $15 startup fee and an annual fee of $39 but does not require a commitment. Amenities with those two membership levels include free WiFi, free fitness training and unlimited access to the member’s home club.
Black card membership is $22.99 a month with a $1 startup fee and annual fee of $39. That membership also requires a 12 month commitment, but comes with extra benefits such as the ability to bring a guest any time, use of hydromassage, massage chairs and tanning, access to any Planet Fitness worldwide and 50 percent off drinks, to name a few.
Baqui said training sessions are offered throughout the week. The sessions focus on various aspects of fitness, such as cardio or strength training, but there are also slots where the member can design their own program by appointment. Trainers are versed in taking a person’s medical history into account to help the member find a program that fits them. Baqui said the trainers can also help new members learn to use the various equipment safely and effectively. For a schedule of the training sessions, visit the website at https://www.planetfitness.com/gyms/?q=picayune.
There is also a section of the facility especially for 30 minute workouts, which include a 10 minute cardio and 10 minute weight training session with cool down periods in between.
Planet Fitness in Picayune employs 12 people full and part time and it is open Monday through Thursday from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
