Staff and volunteers gathered in a conference room of Highland Community Hospital to give a surprise birthday party to one of their longtime volunteers, 95-year-old Audrey Lee.
She’s been a volunteer at the hospital for 25 years, and on Saturday she reached 95 years of living.
Lee was born and raised in London, England but eventually moved to Pearl River County with her late husband, who she met while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. Before moving to Mississippi, the couple lived in England and Germany. Upon her husband’s passing, said she started volunteering at the hospital to give her something to do after a neighbor invited her to join the volunteer staff.
She said she kept volunteering at the local hospital for the past quarter century because she likes the people who work at the hospital, and she “gets a good lunch.”
In her free time, she enjoys communicating with her brother, who still lives in England, reading, watching television and is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
