Louisiana man arrested in Picayune for NOLA murder

A man wanted for a murder that occurred in New Orleans was found and arrested in Picayune recently.

Capt. Kerry McGill with the Picayune Police Department said that on July 25, officers with his department, along with representatives of the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Marshals served an arrest warrant on 25-year-old Lamont Reed, who was staying with a female at a residence located at 701 Williams Ave., Apt. B1 in Picayune.

The team of law enforcement officials arrived to find Reed in the home, who was taken into custody without incident, McGill said. Reed, who gave an address of 2713 Friendship Dr., Harvey, La., was allegedly staying in this area to avoid capture, McGill said.

According to a release posted on the New Orleans Police Department’s website, Reed was wanted for the alleged murder of 25-year-old Davante Robertson, which took place on June 24, at about 8:30 p.m. along Clara Street in the 2800 block. Officers arrived to the scene to find Robertson had been shot multiple times. Robertson, who was identified as the victim two days later by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office, died at the scene the day of the incident, the release states.

Detectives with the New Orleans Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified Reed as a suspect in the case, and issued the warrant for second degree murder, the release states.
