Theresa Bowen Cox
November 14, 2018
Theresa Bowen Cox left this earth peacefully on November 14, 2018. Theresa was born and grew up in Bemiston, a textile mill village just outside of Talladega, Alabama on January 15, 1938.
She briefly attended the University of Alabama as a chemistry major before leaving college to marry the love of her life, Robert Dixon Cox.
Together they lived all over the South, following jobs to different states and making some dear friends along the way. She was a founding member of the team that started Fastener Service, a small industrial supply business in Dothan, where she worked as a bookkeeper/accountant for 25 years.
During retirement she greatly enjoyed sitting by her kitchen window and watching birds in her small but tree-filled backyard. Theresa had a special knack for creating beauty, whether it was changing a barren, sandy backyard into a nature oasis or sewing bedsheets into fancy curtains for her home.
Her strength, fiery spirit, and dedication and love for her family will continue to inspire her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents J.D. and Vida Bowen and a stepmother, Pauline Bowen.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Cox, a son, Robbie Cox (Jan), a daughter, Elizabeth Cox, a brother, Lathe Lamon Bowen (Joan) as well as beloved nieces and nephews. She was the proud grandmother of four grandchildren, including Calvin and Caroline Cox and Carson and Graham Barnett.
