Picayune School District reports that the natural gas leak at Roseland Park Elementary has been repaired.
Assistant Superintendent Brent Harrell said the leak was repaired with the removal of a stove from the cafeteria last week. The repairs had to be conducted after the smell of natural gas was reported by staff and students over the course of more than a week, according to previous coverage.
Before the stove was removed, maintenance crews attempted to solve the problem by installing new service lines to the cooking equipment in the cafeteria. When those repairs did not solve the problem, the stove was removed.
A second stove in the cafeteria has negated the need to order a replacement, Harrell said.
In other school maintenance matters, the air conditioner to one of the classrooms failed this week, prompting the staff have to open the window.
Harrell said that problem has also been repaired.
