Inside Tre Chic, located along West Canal Street in Picayune, shoppers can find a number of reclaimed items that will add to their home’s decor.

Business owner Wanda Treon said she named the store Tre Chic because of the area’s French heritage and the business features a lot of shabby chic items.

“I like to appeal to a variety of tastes,” Treon said.

Inside the store, she offers a number of quality items she either found at flea markets, garage sales or even on the roadside, all of which have been lovingly restored.

After taking the items home and sprucing them up, she may decide to add a coat of paint before featuring it in her stock.

Some of the unique items for sale include a lamp made from old shutters, dressers made of quality wood that have a new coat of oil based paint in distressed fashion and other interior decorating items.

She said she typically looks for quality pieces to showcase in the business, which includes mostly older items and antiques. Treon said that she won’t bring it to the store unless it’s something she would have in her home.

She started working with antiques and reclaimed items about 13 years ago when she returned to the Picayune area. She started out selling her items on online bidding sites, and later moved to selling them locally on consignment in local antique stores.

Her diverse background includes 8 years as a recreation specialist in the military, three years working for national parks and a stint as a Blackjack dealer.

For the past three years she managed one of the antique stores in town where she had her items available on consignment.

But as her collection grew, she decided to open her own storefront about four months ago.

While she is the sole employee, she is usually not far from the store since she lives nearby. That allows her to open the business whenever a customer need arises.

Due to the lack of customers in the morning, this week she started something new, employing the business hours of 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
