The Picayne Maroon Tide had a successful night Friday against the Pascagoula Panthers, racking up a 27-6 win for their second so far this season.
Tide running back Shaun Anderson carried the ball for more than 140 yards on the night, scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Only a couple of miscues occurred during Friday’s game. The defense allowed Panthers running back Dalvin Abnet to tack on more than 100 running yards and an interception by Nick Jones allowed the Panthers to put up their only score of the night in the third quarter.
Spence Colmer’s attempt at an extra point for the Panthers was unsuccessful.
Other scoring plays by the Tide include wide receiver Elijah Burton after quarterback Tyler Penton completed a pass that equated to a 30 yard score in the first quarter. Also in the first quarter, Kade Turnage carried the ball 13 yards to add another touchdown. Running back Jairice Travis completed a one yard run early in the fourth quarter as well.
Three of the four extra point attempts by Tide kicker Ami Naji were successful. He attempted one field goal, which fell short.
Fullback Brian Taylor also caught an interception in the second quarter to give the Tide the control of the ball again after losing it two plays before when a completed pass from Penton to Peyton Esslinger ended in a fumble.
Head Coach Dodd Lee said it’s the little things his team needs to work on to ensure they are a stronger team because a lot of small things can add up.
“Our kicking game has got to get better. We can do everything a little better,” Lee said.
