This Saturday, aspiring and fledgling writers can learn about several aspects of publishing their own work at the Picayune Writer’s Group Symposium.
Group member Lynn Barzé said the event will be held at the Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial Library in Picayune from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The event will offer a free continental breakfast and lunch, along with door prizes. A fundraising effort will also be held in the form of a parade of prizes, where participants can purchase tickets in order to win one of 15 gift baskets from local businesses. Barzé said tickets can be purchased for $1 a piece, seven tickets for $5 or 16 tickets for $10. Participants then place tickets in the bucket in front of the basket they would like to win, and can place as many tickets in each bucket as they wish.
The event is open to writers of all ages and experience levels.
Barzé said the five experienced writers will speak during the symposium. Topics will include how to write comedy, horror, inspirational and memoirs while a fifth speaker will provide tips on conducting effective research to make stories more believable.
Authors and group members attending the event will also have their publications on sale and conduct book signings.
