Work to upgrade the water system in Picayune will result in an outage along Goodyear Boulevard Thursday.
Public Works Director Eric Morris said residents and business owners along Goodyear Boulevard have been alerted to an impending water service outage planned for Thursday.
He said the outage will be the result of ongoing work to rehabilitate the city’s water system, particularly due to the installation of a new water main.
The outage is expected to occur along Goodyear Boulevard from the intersection of Main Street down to the intersection of Quince Street.
Morris said the outage should begin at 8 a.m. that day, and expects service to be restored by 5 p.m.
Once service is restored, customers in the affected area will be under a boil water notice.
In other city related business, Tuesday’s City Council meeting did not occur due to the lack of a quorum. Councilor Tammy Valente, who was at the meeting, said Mayor Ed Pinero was out of town. Also in attendance at the meeting were Councilors Janice Miller Stevens and Wayne Gouguet. Councilors Larry Breland and Lynn Bogan Bumpers were absent.
Councilor Bumpers told the Item she missed Tuesday’s meeting due to a family emergency. An attempt by the Item to contact Breland Tuesday evening was unsuccessful.
During a meeting held Friday morning to set the city’s budget, Breland and Bumpers walked out.
