Kids do the darnedest things

As I watched the children in Picayune On Stage’s current production conduct a dress rehearsal this week, I had to hold back the laughter as two of the youngest, kind of ran amuck.
In the first instance, one of the youngsters jumped down from the stage and ran to her mother in the middle of a song she was supposed to be singing, posing a million questions in the process.
A short time later, a second child held on to the railing of the stage stairs for dear life when one of the directors politely asked her to make way for actors about to enter stage left.
It was the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time, and I’m sure a chuckle or two escaped me as I watched her clutch the railing even harder when the director tried to move her.
I find children’s antics hilarious. And at times, have to restrain myself from laughing hysterically at some of the things they say and do, most of which certainly cause their parents great stress.
The thing is, if their parents took a step back, they would see just how comical young minds are as they try to comprehend the intricacies of proper social interaction. And I’m sure a number of them do, they just trained themselves to not laugh so as to not reinforce their negative behavior.
In my mind I imagine that once their children are put to bed, they can’t help but at least crack a smile as they recount their child’s actions.
As I know they do, each and every parent should cherish their children, and the comical things they do and say as they grow and learn.
Because one day they will be a bit older, and think they know everything.
