An elaborate light show is on display at a local dealership, free to the public.
From 6 to 9 p.m. daily Pearl River County residents can pull into Paw Paw’s Campers and Cars, park their vehicle and see an intricate light show synchronized to music.
Dub Herring, owner of Paw Paw’s Campers and Cars, said the light show takes about two weeks to put up, and involves the use of a tree cutting business’ equipment to hoist the 500 pound, 17 foot tall Santa Claus onto the roof.
Herring said he got the idea to host the light show at the local business after seeing a home in North Hill with a similar display. Herring enlisted the help of Operations Director Vic Bynum to create his own bigger light show off of Memorial Boulevard.
Each year staff adds a new display or song to the light show. It now runs about 40 minutes before looping back to the beginning, Herring said.
Spectators can either tune to 90.1 FM, or simply roll down their windows and listen to the Christmas music through speakers Bynum set up outside.
The show is so popular, that some spectators come back to watch it again, Herring said. To man the show, each dealership employee donates an evening to direct traffic and, at times, hand out coloring books.
“It’s just a fun thing,” Herring said. “We really did it for the community.”
Herring said the show will be available until Dec. 23 and will play each night, weather permitting. Since the lights and sounds require electricity, it’s typically closed during heavy rains.
Herring said he has hosted the show at the location since 2007, adding a manger scene five years ago.
Paw Paw’s Campers and Cars is located at 808 Memorial Blvd. in Picayune.
