This holiday season Pearl River County shoppers are urged to spend their money locally as they cross names off their lists.
Maggie Smith, with the Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce, said the Chamber is working with local businesses to hold open houses to entice shoppers to stop in and see their selections.
Apple’s LTD celebrated the business’s 48th anniversary with its open house. Also this month, Way Out West held an open house.
Next up to hold an open house will be Touch of Vintage, Smith said.
“We have encouraged each store owner to hold an open house,” Smith said.
This year, instead of trees on Main, the city will decorate in the Candy Land theme.
As another way to entice Poplarville residents to shop locally, immediately after the annual Christmas Parade, the Chamber will hold their Movies on Main in the green space on Main Street. This year’s featured movie will be Polar Express.
Also, the Poplarville Woman’s Club will hold their annual Parade of Homes and Christmas Bazaar. See the Calendar page for additional details.
In Picayune, local businesses will be offering products to Pearl River County residents as well. Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nuria Arias said she would love for Picayune residents to think about shopping locally before heading to the Gulf Coast or neighboring Slidell.
Doing so will help create sustainability within the local business community, ensuring local retailers will remain in business.
“We want our consumers to know that by shopping locally, we are sustaining the community and creating economic development,” Arias said.
