Santa Claus is preparing to roll down Main Street in Poplarville for their annual Christmas Parade set for Dec. 2 at 5 p.m.
But before that can happen, the Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for participants to ride, walk or march down Main Street.
Parade Chair Mark Bridgers said applications are now being accepted for all entries, which include floats, horses, motorcycles and marching groups.
Every year Santa Claus rides on one of the city’s fire trucks.
Bridgers said that this year the parade will start at the Poplarville High School and end near the campus of Pearl River Community College. That means the route will start at the high school, head down Main Street before turning onto Larken Smith Drive and ending along U.S. 11.
Bridgers said he expects about 40 or more floats to be in the parade, along with the high school band, PRCC band and local dance troupes.
Applications to participate in the parade can be found at all area banks, the local Radio Shack, located at 413 South Main St., or via the website at poplarville.org.
The cost to enter a float or organization is $20, or $15 for Chamber members. Horses and motorcycles can enter for $3 each.
The deadline to register is Nov. 28, but late registrations can be submitted for $30.
Floats should be lit, and participants will begin staging at 3:45 p.m.
Funds raised support the Poplarville Area Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber is currently without office space due to the need for repairs to the old City Hall building where they were housed.
While attending the parade, it’s recommended that people avoid crossing in front of floats and wear light colored clothing. For more information about the parade call Bridgers at 601-795-7032.
