A report of a woman allegedly being held against her will eventually led to the arrest of two people for drug related offenses.

Pearl River County Sheriff David Allison said the report of the alleged kidnapping came occurred on Oct. 11 at about 1:30 that afternoon, resulting in deputies responding to a home located at 42 Nellie Burks Rd.

The deputies secured the home, finding cause to request a search warrant. Allison said that when the warrant was approved, they searched the home, later determined to be that of 49-year-old Lucius Breland, who was not there at the time.

During the search, it was learned that Breland was on his way to court. Allison said that officers at the court were informed Breland was on the way, so they waited outside. Breland was detained upon his arrival, along with the driver of the vehicle, 36-year-old Doug Rutledge of 143 Bear Drive, Carriere.

While speaking with the two men, the officers found drug paraphernalia in their possession, leading to their arrest for the offense, Allison said.

During the search of Breland’s home, the deputies found methamphetamine, suboxone and clonazepam, leading Breland to be arrested for the additional offenses of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and three counts of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.

At the time of his arrest, Breland was out on bond for manufacture of a controlled substance. That bond was revoked, Allison said.

Deputies discovered the female at the home was not being held against her will, but required medical assistance. She was transported to Highland Community Hospital for treatment.
