To Faith Cooper, passion is what keeps her diligent.
Cooper, owner of Faith’s Platinum Salon in Picayune, has had a passion for beautification most of her life. A year ago, she fulfilled her dream of opening a salon in Picayune’s downtown area.
“I have been in the salon business for a long time and I’ve always set the goal of opening a salon on West Canal Street. When the opportunity presented itself to me I immediately hopped on it and have loved the decision ever since,” Cooper said.
From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Faith’s provides a variety of cosmetology needs, including hair styling and cutting, air brush tanning, access to multiple tanning beds, body wraps, facials, manicures and pedicures, waxing and hair products.
The abundance of salons and hairstyling shops around the area doesn’t worry Cooper.
“This community is a great place to have a salon like this,” Cooper said. “I know some of the other salon owners around the area and we are all friends. It’s not like we are competing against one another because, even though we provide similar services, we all bring something unique to our business.”
Being part of a small community like Picayune, Cooper has grown fond of the relationships she formed and is always excited to meet new people.
“The relationship I build with my customers is really different than any other business because I am building a bond with them while making them beautiful again,” Cooper said.
Faith’s Platinum Salon offers a friendly atmosphere to customers and helps them achieve smooth and shiny hair.
“I got into this business for one reason, and it wasn’t for the money,” Cooper said. “I truly enjoy helping people feel good about themselves and bringing out their beauty.”
Previously, she had a customer bring an autistic child for a haircut. To ease the child’s mind during the cut, Cooper spent three hours with the child on the floor where he felt comfortable.
“When you see their smiling face through the mirror after they see their hair, my job becomes priceless,” Cooper said. “It’s amazing how big of an impact a haircut can have on someone’s confidence. Giving someone a good look can take them out of the darkness and that is why I am here.”
Cooper’s passion for hairstyling began over 20 years ago and to this day has not waned, she said. That passion helps her salon thrive.
Although Cooper has an inclination for hairstyling, her first love is music, so she incorporates that in her salon.
“Every salon has a unique flare to it like the rhythm of someone’s voice. It is very personable and I feel like that’s exactly what we have here,” Cooper said.
She and her husband own Cooper Hill Entertainment in Picayune, whom she met through music. She is also the singer in a band called “After Sun Down.”
“The good Lord has blessed me with a life where I can balance both of my passions. I get to make people beautiful everyday and because of that, I get to continue living the dream in music,” Cooper said.
Faith’s Platinum Salon is located at 320 West Canal Street in Picayune. Walk-ins are welcome and appointments can be made by calling (729) 242-0475 or by messaging Cooper on Faith’s Platinum Salon Facebook page.
