Burn ban remains in effect in Pearl River County

The burn ban initiated in Pearl River County will continue in spite of recent rains.
Pearl River County Emergency Management Director Danny Manley said he requested the burn ban be lifted, but that request was denied by the Mississippi Forestry Commission because the agency felt last week’s rains were not sufficient.
“I’m not convinced it’s not a bad idea,” Manley said about leaving the ban in effect.
Manley said out of the state’s 82 counties, about 76 still have burn bans in effect.
That ban will remain in effect until further notice.
