Tickets for Picayune’s annual fundraising event to assist locals receiving breast cancer treatment are now on sale.
Puttin’ on the Pink Board member Christy Goss said tickets are $35 and are being sold at the Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce and Bre’s Clothing and Accessories until Sept. 26 at the close of business. The event will be held on Oct. 1 at the Henry Smith House.
The event is held annually to raise funds to assist locals needing assistance with the various expenses associated with breast cancer treatment, such as travel and mammograms.
Last year the event raised $28,000, all of which was used to help Pearl River County residents receive mammograms, ultra sound mammograms, diagnostic mammograms and provide them with gas cards to help cover the travel expenses of during their breast cancer treatment, Goss said. The funding can also be used to help cancer patients pay for expensive prescription medications.
This is the sixth year the event will be held in Picayune. Goss said the event is held at a different venue each year to provide a variety of local businesses with exposure. This year Trent Ladner returns to provide live music for the event. Goss said Ladner is a Hancock County High School graduate who recently recorded an album.
Donations are also being sought to help with the silent auction and door prizes. Goss said any business interested in donating items can contact the organization through the Puttin’ on the Pink Facebook page. Currently, items to be offered in the silent auction include from jewelry, art, gift certificates and ice chests.
Another effort to help raise funds entails T-shirt sales. This year long-sleeved shirts are being sold with the theme “Let your light shine a cure” complete with lightning bugs. They are being sold for $15 and can be purchased at Highland Community Hospital or Bre’s.
Highland staff will also raffle off special gift baskets starting next week. Anyone can attempt to win one of the baskets, which will be on display in the hospital’s lobby. The winners of the raffle will be announced next Friday.
