Volunteer firefighters in Pearl River County responded to two fires in less than 24 hours.
Pearl River County Fire Marshal Albert Lee said the first fire was called in Sunday night just before 11 p.m., taking place in a trailer in a field at 245 Burgetown Road. Lee said the trailer was being set up, so it was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
The second fire took place Monday morning just after 8 at a home located off of Old Highway 11.
The homeowner, Holli Bryson, said she was notified that her house was on fire by a neighbor. No one was in the home at the time of the fire, Bryson said.
Bryson said the children were out of town and her dog was with her when the fire occurred.
She said she moved to Pearl River County after Hurricane Katrina damaged her home in Chalmette.
“This sucks… you start getting it all back and now it’s lost again,” Bryson said while watching firefighters hose down the hotspots in the roof.
Henleyfield Volunteer Fire Chief Scott Sullivan said the fire started quickly. He was close by when the call came through the radio, arriving two minutes later to find flames were already coming through the roof.
Carriere Volunteer Fire Chief Chris Banks said he could see the smoke from the fire all the way from Interstate 59 as he responded to the blaze.
Several agencies responded to the call, including Carriere, Pine Grove, Henleyfield and McNeill volunteer fire departments along with firefighters from the Picayune Fire Department.
