Several fire departments in Pearl River County responded to a Sunday night fire that resulted in the loss of a family’s home.
Pearl River County Fire Marshal Albert Lee said emergency responders were alerted to the fire at 8:22 Sunday night.
Firefighters with Picayune Fire Department, and the volunteer departments of Carriere, McNeill, Pine Grove and Southeast responded.
Lee said they arrived at 8:34 that night to find the home fully involved. He said the home, located at 387 Inside Road, is now a total loss.
Initial investigation into the incident determined that the residents, Ricky and Crystal Brent, had finished dinner and were sitting on the front porch when Crystal heard a loud pop inside the home.
When she went inside to see what the noise was she saw a fire appearing around the stove and microwave. Three children and another adult were in the home at the time of the fire. Lee said everyone was able to escape the home without injury.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, at this time Lee said it appears to be accidental.
