A single vehicle accident Saturday night resulted in the death of the driver.
Emergency responders received a call of the accident that night at about 8:22, occurring on McNeill Steephollow Road near Mack Spiers Road, said Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department chief Deputy Shane Tucker.
Investigation into the accident showed it occurred as the driver, identified as 67-year-old Arthur Beard of Carriere, crossed the center line, hit a mailbox and then struck a culvert before the vehicle landed overturned in a ditch full of water, Tucker said.
Sgt. David Silva was the first on the scene and attempted to remove Beard from the vehicle, but was unable to reach him, Tucker said.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said the cause of death was listed as being due to blunt force trauma. Turnage said he did not believe the water in the ditch was a factor.
