Pearl River Central High School brought home several awards from the weekend’s Mississippi Gulf South Regional Science Olympiad.
Pearl River Central High School was the only local high school to participate in the event that brought 22 teams from 17 South Mississippi High Schools to the Pearl River Community College Campus in Poplarville on Saturday.
According to a release from PRCC, The following schools placed in these events in the following order: First, second and third.
Anatomy and physiology – St. Patrick, Oak Grove High School, Pearl River Central High School.
Astronomy – Oak Grove, Seminary High School, PRC.
Bridge building – D’Iberville High School, PRC, St. Patrick.
Chemistry lab – West Jones High School, Oak Grove, PRC.
Disease Detectives – St. Patrick, Forrest County Agricultural High School, PRC.
Dynamic Planet – Stone High School, d’Iberville, Oak Grove.
Forensics – St. Patrick, d’Iberville, Oak Grove.
Fossils – D’Iberville, PRC, FCAHS.
Game On – St. Patrick, FCAHS, West Jones.
Green Generation – Seminary, West Jones, Oak Grove.
Invasive Species – PRC, FCAHS, St. Patrick.
Robot arm – FCAHS, Stone, d’Iberville.
Wind power – West Jones, St. Patrick (second and third).
Wright Stuff – West Jones, FCAHS, St. Patrick.
Write It Do It – Oak Grove, d’Iberville, Stone.
Microbe Mission – FCAHS, Oak Grove, St. Patrick.
Winners of those events will be invited to participate in the state competition and those winners will be invited to participate in nationals.
This was the second year PRCC has hosted the regional event at the Poplarville campus. PRCC Science Mathematics and Business Department Chair Karen Bond expects the college to host the event annually.
