Four more arrested as part of ongoing drug bust operation

Two sets of arrests conducted by the Picayune Police Department were the result of the ongoing Operation Who’s Next.

The first bust took place Wednesday night just after 5 while undercover narcotics agents were working anonymous tips of alleged drug activity along U.S. 11 South. 

While conducting the surveillance, officers saw an alleged narcotics transaction take place, prompting them to approach the vehicles and speak to 48-year-old Tina Rene Fugate of 2311 Jackson Landing Road, 38-year-old Hector Batres Barrow of 57254 South Hardin Ave., Slidell, La., and 33-year-old Annette Joy Davis also of 57254 South Hardin Ave., Slidell, La., Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri said.

A search of the vehicle in question found six aluminum foil packages containing a substance believed to be heroin and several used syringes, Magri said.  

In Davis’ purse officers found several syringes containing a brown liquid believed to be heroin and suboxone sublingual films, Magri said. 

The investigation showed that the heroin in the aluminum was allegedly sold by Fugate, leading her to be charged with sale of a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school or church and possession of paraphernalia, Magri said. 

Davis and Barrow were charged with conspiracy to sell a controlled substance within 1,500 feet of a school or church. Davis was additionally charged with possession of paraphernalia, Magri said. The vehicle the suspects were riding in was seized. 

That same night at about 7:27 officers served a sale of a controlled substance warrant on 42-year-old Carlos Lamont Thomas of 2205 Morris Street. They arrived at his home to find Thomas and another person, identified as 30-year-old Dewayne Allen Bester Jr. of 972 Shirley Drive. Thomas was arrested for the warrant and at that time dispatch informed the officers that there was also a warrant out for Bester’s arrest for sale of a controlled substance with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department, Magri said. While arresting Bester for the warrant, the officers discovered he was in possession of $2,120 in cash, Magri said.

In plain view within Bester’s vehicle, which was parked in the driveway, officers noticed several clear plastic bags containing multi-colored tablets suspected to be ecstasy along with some Xanax pills, Magri said. 

Bester was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a school or church. 

The currency found in Bester’s possession was seized, Magri said.
