Our city is growing for the better

As many of you may have noticed our fair city is growing.

That growth has included a number of improvements to the streets in Picayune over the last couple of months and new business developments

First of note, is the overlay of Memorial Boulevard. Finally, the entrance to our fair city at exit 4 from Interstate 59 matches the rest of the drive toward Highway 11. All we are waiting on now is the curb and gutter work for that project to be complete. Then, the drive from the Interstate toward the heart of town will be a uniform scene. The second entrance to Picayune off of I-59 was not left out of the improvements. City employees recently finished installation of decorative streetlights down Sycamore Road.

Mayor Ed Pinero said the lights were turned on Friday, adding a bit of flair to our nighttime drive.

Both of these projects do a lot to put our best foot forward when courting new businesses and subsequently new residents. Many motorists may have noticed that work is being done to the building that formerly housed Scooters chicken. Rumors abound as to what new business will occupy the building. I’ll let that one be a surprise for those who may not have heard.

There is also a new restaurant in the works for the Top of the Hill shopping center. Be sure to keep an eye on when they will open their doors. As the Christmas season nears, be sure to patron our city’s small retail shops while buying those presents for friends and loved ones.

Your local retailers will be appreciative of the extra business, and your vehicle will last just a little bit longer from the shorter drive on better streets.
