The suspect of a residential burglary was found by the victim charging his ankle bracelet outside of her home.
Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the case was reported to the department on Monday when the victim of the burglary called to report cash had been taken from her home in her absence.
She told investigators that she left her home locked and secured on Saturday but when she returned the next day she noticed money was missing from her purse, Tucker said.
After leaving again that day and returning home that night she found her neighbor, 29-year-old David Harlon Spiers of 1 Ridgeway Lane, sitting outside her home charging his ankle bracelet via an external power outlet.
An argument ensued prompting her to contact the sheriff’s department.
Tucker said when Sgt. David Silva arrived, he spoke with the victim and then mirandized Spiers. During the subsequent investigation it was determined that Spiers had entered the home, taken the money and used it to purchase beer, chicken and cigarettes, before returning to the home the next day to use her outlet to charge his parole monitoring device, Tucker said.
He was charged with residential burglary and since Spiers was on parole the Mississippi Department of Corrections was contacted, who put a hold on him, Tucker said.
