A New Orleans woman passed away Monday afternoon due to injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident that occurred on Interstate 59 near Millard.
Cpl. Ben Seibert with the Mississippi Highway Patrol said the accident occurred just before 1 p.m. Monday when a south bound 2006 Infinity left the road on the right side, impacted a tree and rolled over several times.
The driver, Aisha Howard, 37 of New Orleans, Louisiana sustained moderate injuries, but the passenger was ejected.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said the passenger has been identified as Angela Monique James, 42 also of New Orleans. Turnage said she sustained severe head trauma during the accident. She was pronounced at the scene, Turnage said.
Howard was transported to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg for treatment of her injuries.
Turnage said a witness reported the accident.
Seibert said Howard was wearing her seatbelt, but James was not.
A cause of the accident is still under investigation, Seibert said.
