A driver suspected of being drunk crashed through a Subway restaurant Sunday night.

Maj. Chad Dorn with the Picayune Police Department said officers were sent to the restaurant, located on U.S. 11, at 11:20 that night in reference to a single vehicle accident.

When they arrived they found a white Ford Focus inside the lobby of the business, Dorn said.

As the officer spoke with the driver, identified as 18-year-old Tristan Burge of 174 Terry Lane in Carriere, he could detect the strong odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from Burge, Dorn said.

At that time a field sobriety test was conducted, which led to Burge being charged with DUI first offense, Dorn said.

Burge told the officer that the accident occurred as he was trying to park the vehicle and the accelerator got stuck, Dorn said.

No serious injuries were reported. Debris, including door and window frames and seating and tables, was piled in front of the business Monday, which appeared to be closed.
