Fatal plane crash leaves one alive

Recently, reports of fatal airplane accidents have dominated the news. While air travel continues to be one of the safest modes of transportation, airplanes are breakable.

Between the AirAsia flight accident, which took the lives of 162 people, according to CNN, and the Piper PA-34 aircraft accident on U.S soil, it seems almost impossible that there could be a wrinkle of hope in any fatal crash. But now there is.

CNN reported that the PA-34 aircraft, which was on its way from Florida to Illinois, lost contact with air traffic controllers when reported engine issues caused the plane to divert its course and crashed only a couple of miles from the airport.

But one little 7-year-old girl survived, while every other passenger, including her parents, cousin, and sister died.

According to the Bureau of Aircraft Accident Archives, the number of aircraft fatalities for 2014 was 1,320. Comparatively, in 2013, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported there were 32,719 people who died in car crashes.

While airplane fatalities are rare, this little girl’s survival story is even more unusual. Some things happen in this universe that have no explanation, and this is one of them. Was it a miracle or just pure luck? Maybe the little girl was accompanied by a guardian angel, but if that’s so, why weren’t the other passengers protected? Or maybe she was just in the right part of the airplane at the right time, which allowed her to walk away from a devastating crash alive.

According to CNN, the reason the plane crashed is still under investigation. But the reason the little girl survived may never be known. Whether its luck or something beyond explanation, the little girl is alive to tell her story, which is a miracle in itself, whatever the reason.
