A suspect in last Friday’s armed robbery of a local pharmacy was charged with the crime on Thursday.
The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Nathan M. Howell of 130 George Mitchell Rd., and is being charged with armed robbery, said Picayune Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri.
The crime occurred on Dec. 12 just before 9:30 a.m. when Howell allegedly entered the store and approached the area of the pharmacy, according to previous coverage. When the suspect reached the pharmacy the threat of a firearm was used to convince the staff to give him an undisclosed amount of prescription medication, the previous story states.
Magri said after the incident occurred detectives reviewed surveillance footage and compiled witness statements in order to identify the suspect. In that investigation it was determined the suspect was a white male wearing a plaid cap, sunglasses and blue hoodie, later leading the investigators to believe Howell was involved.
Picayune Police Department detectives met with investigators from the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Thursday morning just before 8:30 and headed to Howell’s home to speak with him. During that interaction the law enforcement officials were able to locate the hat and sunglasses seen in the video, Magri said. That evidence, combined with other evidence collected on scene, led to Howell’s arrest, Magri said.
