A Picayune man reported to police that he was shot outside his home after he did not give an assailant money.
Picayune Police Officers were sent to a home in the area of Kingsway Drive Wednesday night just before 11:30 and spoke to the complainant who found her husband on the ground with blood on his leg and face, said Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri.
Officers followed the woman to the back of her home where they found the man, who told them that as he was getting out of his vehicle in front of his home an unknown man approached him and demanded all of his money, Magri said.
The victim told officers that when he informed the suspect that he had no money to give, the suspect shot him in the leg and fled on foot in an unknown direction, Magri said.
An ambulance was called to the scene to care for the victim, who was later transported to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg for treatment of his wound, Magri said.
Investigators were also called to the area to process the scene and collect any evidence in order to identify a suspect, Magri said.
The incident is currently under investigation.
Police Chief Bryan Dawsey asks for community assistance in order to identify the suspect. He asks anyone with information on this incident to call the department at 601-798-7411. Information can also be submitted anonymously by calling 601-799-CLUE (2583).
