Baby clothes in Poplarville

The babies of Poplarville are in luck.
There’s a new exclusive shop just for children and parents are sure to find something to cover every baby’s bottom at Jessie Rae’s Baby Bottoms Boutique.
Twenty-year old Jessica Theriot said she always envisioned opening a boutique for women.
“However, there are a lot of those boutiques around town,” Theriot said. “What Poplarville needed was a children’s boutique.”
Theriot is a 2012 graduate of Poplarville High School.
After graduation, Theriot moved to Hattiesburg for about a year, but decided to move back home in April.
Theriot said during her job hunt, she noticed a building for rent downtown.
“I called the realtor and talked to my parents, James and Jennifer, about helping me open a store,” Theriot said.
Within three days, Theriot said she rented the building.
Immediately, Theriot and her family and friends began renovating the space.
Theriot said she wanted the store open in time for June’s Blueberry Jubilee.
Jessie’s Rae’s opened on June 14 and Theriot said business has been steady ever since.
Jessie Rae’s offers a variety of products for little ones including: crib shoes, bracelets, clothing, bows, pacy clips, leggings, tights, tank tops, bibs, receiving blankets and rattles.
Theriot carries merchandise from popular brands such as Mudpie, Weplay, Carters, Osh Kosh and handmade dresses from Ecuador.
Theriot creates tutus, tutu dresses, bows and bow holders by hand.
Clothing can also be embroidered, Theriot said. However, that service is done off-site.
There is a children’s play area to keep youngsters busy while moms shop, Theriot said. The play area includes a chalkboard, crayons and little chairs.
In the future, Theriot plans to expand to a larger building in order to accommodate more merchandise.
Theriot said customers have been requesting clothing for older children and more shoe choices.
“I want to offer all those items, and possibly maternity clothes,” Theriot said. “Customers seem to be excited about having a store for babies.”
Theriot said word has spread about her boutique; she even receives many item requests from Louisiana residents.
Theriot currently attends Pearl River Community College where she is majoring in marketing.
She also plans to study textiles and eventually create her own clothing line.
Jessie Rae’s is located at 412 S. Main St.
The store’s hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
