Two search warrants served on Pearl River County homes led to the arrest of several suspects for drug related charges.
As part of an extended investigation into community complaints concerning suspected drug activity at a Carriere home, Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department narcotics investigators served a search warrant on July 2 at the home of 54-year-old Karen Brewer, located at 8 Ceedee Lane, Sheriff David Allison said.
In the search, the investigators compiled evidence that Brewer was allegedly selling prescription medication. Allison said evidence included a ledger and a prescription bottle with dozens of pills missing. The investigation further alleged Brewer was trading the pills with other individuals, Allison said.
In the search, two ounces of a substance believed to be marijuana was found in the bedroom of 20-year-old David Brewer III, who also lives at that address, Allison said.
Karen Brewer was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana, while David Brewer III was charged with felony possession of marijuana, Allison said.
Detectives are continuing their investigation into the case, which includes individuals who live in Pearl River County and surrounding areas in Louisiana, and expect to conduct additional arrests in the near future, Allison said.
The second search involved investigators checking into multiple complaints they had received over the past several months about ongoing drug activity at a home located at 18 Tear Drop Lane near Picayune, Allison said.
The investigation utilized surveillance and vehicle monitoring at the property, Allison said. A warrant was secured and served on July 10, where the investigators, patrol deputies and the K-9 division came into contact with several individuals at the home, including 50-year-old Timothy Mitchell of 6 Gene Dr., Carriere, 46-year-old Matthew Brown of 18 Tear Drop Lane, 25-year-old Joseph Davis of 1010 Shorty Burgess Rd., Apt. A., who were found in a shed at the home, Allison said.
Officers first searched the home, where they found 29-year-old Amanda Hamilton of 1010 Shorty Burgess Rd., Apt. A, and 49-year-old Jonelle Brown of 18 Tear Drop Lane. As they entered the home officers detected the odor of burnt marijuana, Allison said. Officers noticed a young juvenile belonging to Hamilton was sleeping in a crib in an upstairs bedroom, who was later released to a guardian called to the scene.
A search of the home found marijuana and paraphernalia in plain sight, Allison said.
As officers searched the shed, they found a baggy containing methamphetamine, about seven pounds of marijuana, digital scales, baggies and other paraphernalia along with alcoholic beverages and firearms, Allison said.
When they talked with Mitchell, he was found to have a pipe commonly used to consume methamphetamine in his shirt pocket, and a subsequent search of his vehicle found precursor chemicals used to manufacture the drug, leading him to be charged with possession of paraphernalia and possession of precursor chemicals.
Matthew Brown and Jonelle Brown were charged with trafficking marijuana while in possession of a firearm, possession of paraphernalia and possession of beer in a dry county, Allison said.
Davis was charged with possession of beer in a dry county, while Hamilton was charged with possession of marijuana, Allison said.
Two vehicles and two firearms were seized as a result of the search, Allison said.
