Let’s support a splash pad in the city of Picayune

A splash pad would be a wonderful addition to any area within the city of Picayune.
But the best possible location may be Friendship Park.
While the possibility of a splash pad is still just an idea, since the city’s administration has neither approved nor denied such a move, if approved, the attraction could provide youngsters a great place to play.
For the uninitiated, a splash pad is essentially a concrete slab with plumbing installed underneath connected to a number of loops, or tall structures.
The structures are typically made of plastic and spray water in various directions onto the children playing below.
Most kids have already experienced something similar, a sprinkler toy hooked to a water hose in the front yard. But a splash pad is usually much larger.
Summer months in south Mississippi are always hot, and having a local place where children can cool off would be great.
It would also provide a place for parents to meet and catch up on the day’s happenings while their children burn some energy.
Picayune Main Street is in the planning stages of holding a fundraiser to build a splash pad, but they have not yet presented the idea to the city’s administration.
If the funds were raised to build a splash pad without additional taxes we see no reason why the city’s administration would reject such a proposal.
There is the possibility of increased utility bills associated with water use, but that hurdle could be addressed with some creative engineering, such as a recycling system for the water.
We hope the city approves both the fundraiser and the splash pad.
Children in this city would certainly enjoy it and the adults might as well.
