Unofficial results from the U.S. Senate runoff between incumbent Thad Cochran and challenger Chris McDaniel show McDaniel led Pearl River County.
Cochran and McDaniel faced off in a race that has captured the attention of the entire nation.
Tuesday’s unofficial results show McDaniel took Pearl River County with 5,758 votes to Cochran’s 2,136 votes.
Circuit Court Clerk Vickie Harriel said her office received about 300 absentee ballots and about 86 affidavit ballots. These results include the absentee ballots, but not affidavit.
This is the second time Mississippi voters were required to show identification to cast a ballot.
Voters who were unable to show identification were required to vote via affidavit. They have five days to provide the Circuit Clerk’s office with proof of that identification or their vote will not be counted.
Associated Press statewide results show Cochran received 182,507 votes and McDaniel received 177,709 votes.
