Pearl River Community College’s soccer team is currently holding a silent auction to raise funds for championship rings.

Head coach Paul Martin said the team won two back-to-back state and regional championship titles and now needs to raise funds to purchase rings for the players.

“We’re trying to make sure each player gets a ring,” Martin said.

This is Martin’s third year as head coach and so far he said his time there has been successful. During his first season in 2011 the team was a finalist in the regional and state competitions, moving on in the subsequent years to take home the regional and state championships in 2012 and 2013.

“We had two great years and we will try to go for three years,” Martin said. “We want to be the first team to win three years in a row.”

This silent auction features memorabilia many sports enthusiasts will be interested in.

Up for sale is a Saints football signed by quarterback Drew Brees, a Jahri Evans pro-bowl football signed by the team, a signed Pete Rose helmet and jersey and a Hope Soio signed soccer ball, among many other collectible items.

New Orleans Saints Assistant Athletic Trainer Kevin Magnum donated many of the items to the auction, Martin said.

The auction is ongoing at the PRCC Wellness Center, but ends at 3 p.m. Wednesday May 7.

A second championship ring fundraiser will involve a soccer summer camp, scheduled for July 7 through 12.

Two camps will be held during that time. The girl’s camp will be held from July 7 through 9, while the boy’s camp is scheduled for July 10 through 12.

The camp is open to high school students and interested parties can sign up via the website at www.prccsoccer.com.

Registration for the camp is $225.
