A person of interest is wanted for questioning in relation to a recent burglary.

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said investigators are looking for a person of interest in relation to a burglary that occurred on Jackson Landing Road. Tucker said the department received a call of the crime at 9:45 the morning of Jan. 28.

Deputies arrived to find the house had been ransacked and items were found in a plastic tote as though the perpetrators intended to take them, but left them for an unknown reason, Tucker said.

Investigation into the case led detectives to the home of 18-year-old Richard Carver, located at 31 Davis Dawsey Road, Tucker said. As the officers knocked on the door, Carver tried to escape out the back door, but was captured by a narcotics detective stationed outside.

Through the investigation detectives recovered several items identified by the victims as being stolen from their home, including more than 50 collectible coins, jewelry, three U.S. Navy medals from World War II, a pocket knife and binoculars, Tucker said.

Carver is currently charged with felony receiving stolen property, Tucker said.

Investigators are seeking a person of interest who may be able to shed more light into the case. Tucker said that person is identified as 20-year-old Huston T. Powe of 81 McCarty Island Road. Tucker said Powe is only wanted for questioning and asks anyone with information on his whereabouts to call Det. Joe Lee at 601-749-7700.
