The Pearl River County Library System is partnering with the Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce to promote a statewide project, the Mississippi Day of Giving.

Laurie Huck, the executive director of Greater Picayune Area Chamber of Commerce, said the project is an online donation event scheduled for Oct. 24. It is spearheaded by the Mississippi State Art Commission and the Mississippi Center for Nonprofits and Volunteers, she said.

“It is part of a larger common goal to solve community issues. The whole idea behind it is to provide an online platform for charitable organizations to raise funds, attract volunteers and share success stories with people across the state,” Huck said.

An informational meeting is scheduled for Oct. 16 from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at the Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial

Library. The library will provide free breakfast and Wi-Fi so bringing a laptop or tablet is encouraged for registration purposes.

Carol Phares, the Director at Pearl River County Library System is organizing the event. Huck talked about how she and Phares are looking forward to the event.

“Carol and I are really excited to present this opportunity for charitable organizations in Pearl River County. We believe that Mississippians are great at charitable giving and understand how this plays a role in the economic health of our communities and our state.”

Huck went on to say that any organization who is a 501(c)3 can participate and this informational session is a good way to get started.
