No white Christmas in forecast

Bing Crosby would be disappointed with the weather forecast for Christmas Day in Pearl River County.

While it won’t be a white Christmas in the county, chilly temperatures will bring a feeling of Christmas to the air.

On Christmas Eve, high temperatures are expected to reach the mid 50s during the day, said Danielle Manning, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Slidell. On Christmas Eve night, while Santa is delivering presents, he will have to face a low temperature in the 20s.

Over the weekend, a line of thunderstorms stretching from southern Louisiana to Indiana caused damage to homes in northern Mississippi.

The storm tore through the state on Saturday night and killed two men in Mississippi, but caused no damage to Pearl River County.

“There was no damage reported in Pearl River County,” said Danny Manley, director of Emergency Management Agency.

One man died in Coahoma County after his mobile home overturned, said Coahoma County Coroner Scotty Meredith. In Jasper County, a man was killed when his car hit a fallen tree. The female passenger was critically injured, said Jasper County Coroner Randy Graham.

Pearl River County only received about 1.02 inches of rain on Saturday as the storm passed through, Manning said.

The Associated Press contributed to the story.
