City of Picayune and Pearl River County Emergency Operations update
Tony Bounds, public information officer for Pearl River County Emergency Operations, as well as Shane Tucker of the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department are urging all Pearl River County residents to stay home Tuesday, unless it is absolutely necessary to travel the roads.
“We urge all residents to stay home tomorrow, but if they most travel to do so at a greatly reduced speed,” Bounds said. “The Emergency Operations Center is active with all county officials, working hard to maintain conditions that are as safe as possible.”

Message from City of Picayune: all freeze precautions should be taken at your residence. Protect pipes, plants, people, pets. Winter Storm Warning from 6 a.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Below freezing temps possible for 48 hrs. Freezing rain beginning around daybreak Tuesday transitioning to sleet & snow in the afternoon. Accumulations of 1/2″ of ice and 1″ of snow with 2″ to 3″ of snow possible. Icing bridges and limbs falling on power lines will cause dangerous travel & power outages. Retrieve all essential items today. Please stay off the roadways if possible until ice melts. Check on neighbors, elderly, handicapped.
