The Picayune Police Department conducted a joint investigation with the Louisiana Attorney General’s office that led to the arrest of James Curtis Simmons, Sr. for 25 counts of child pornography, said Assistant Chief Jeremy Magri.

Through investigation the Louisiana Attorney General learned that there were child porn pictures being downloaded to an Internet protocol (IP) address on a desktop computer. They subpoenaed the address and 1229 Stemwood Drive, Magri said.

During the investigation, detectives had learned that Simmons, Sr. was a registered sex offender in the state of Mississippi for attempted sexual battery of a child under 12, committed in Florida, Magri said.

On April 15, at 4:37 p.m., the Picayune Police Department and an agent of the AG’s office executed a search warrant at 1229 Stemwood Dr., in reference to the child pornography investigation, Magri said.

During the search, officers recovered evidence of child pornography and Simmons, Sr. was taken into custody and transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated for 25 counts of possession of child pornography, Magri said.

The computer was seized and is being held for evidence, Magri said.
