New web site, better user experience

On Monday, the Picayune Item launched our new website design that will provide a better online experience for our readers.

The website is cleaner, simpler and easier to navigate.

The Picayune Item will continue to post stories and content to the site and readers may notice a few new categories.

A new section labeled records will now host all of the records readers see on the records page.

At the bottom of the page are new sections labeled education, health & fitness, art & entertainment and business.

This area is to highlight and emphasize some of the stories that run in the Item that fall under these categories.

Readers may also notice an increase in pictures on the website. The new design allows the staff to feature more photos on the homepage, instead of just including pictures in the stories.

Another addition to the website are areas where you, the reader, can submit information online to the newspaper.

Under the section labeled services is an option to submit a photo, a news tip, and engagement and wedding announcements.

These options allow the newspaper to hear from you what you would like to see included in the newspaper.

Uploading engagement and wedding announcements online also makes it more convenient for you as the reader to relay information to us.

Make sure to also hit subscribe when visiting the new site.

This will allow you to receive an email each day with a rundown of what is new to the site and links to the new content.

We hope you the readers enjoy and will keeping on clicking.
