Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

The Picayune Police Department arrested a Picayune man after he was observed swerving on the highway in his vehicle, said Jeremy Magri. assistant to the chief.

“On Dec. 27 at 11:16 p.m., while on patrol, an officer observed a vehicle traveling west- bound on (Mississippi) Highway 43 North,” said Magri. “The officer observed the vehicle to swerve on the road several times and a traffic stop was then conducted at d(U.S.) Highway 11 and (Miss.) Hwy. 43 North.

“Upon speaking to driver identified as 23-year-old Shane Siemssen of 48 McCormick Lane in Picayune, the officer found that the driver was unable to provide a driver’s license. A check of National Crime Information Center showed it was suspended.”

At this point he was asked to step out of the vehicle and was taken into custody, Magri said.

“The officer then observed, in plain view, on the driver’s side floor board two bags containing a green, leafy substance believed to be synthetic marijuana,” Magri said. “He also located in center console, a glass pipe containing a green, leafy substance and a plastic coke bottle containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana.”

Siemssen was then arrested for careless driving, driving while license suspended, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia, Magri said. In addition, $776 was seized due to the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.

“He was then transported to (the criminal Justice Center) where he was booked on said charges,” Magri said.
