Picayune students place at the district competition
Eight Picayune Career and Technology Center students placed at the 2014 DECA District IV and V competition in Ellisville, Miss. on Jan. 22.
DECA is an association of marketing students that affords them the opportunity to compete in various areas of marketing, said Chira Slone, a teach at the career and technology center.
The following students placed at the competition:
• Sidney Albritton and Chaunn Davidson placed second in business law and ethics team decision making
• Jonathon Heberg and Kimi Herring placed fifth in buying and merchandising team decision making.
• Kiandre McMillian and De Jon Stallings placed sixth in sports and entertainment marketing team decision making.
• Arianna Malley and Sydney Varnado placed sixth in hospitality services team decision making.
Annika Sanders has been invited to attend the Career Development Conference as a voting delegate and Claudia Hampton has been invited as a student worker, Sloan said.
“Students attend competitions and conferences that shape them into today’s achievers and tomorrow’s success stories,” Sloan said.
After the conference, the Picayune DECA Chapter held its Officer Installation Dinner.
Arianna Malley was appointed senior elect, Kimi Herring was appointed as president, Sidney Albritton was appointed vice-president, Annika Sanders was appointed secretary, Sydney Varnado was appointed reporter, Kiandre McMillian was appointed treasurer and Chaunn Davidson was appointed parliamentarian.
“I am extremely proud of our DECA members! They have worked very hard and it shows. I am sure these students will continue to impress and amaze us. I also give credit to their parents who have done an outstanding job raising their children,” Sloan said.
